How do I reduce SPAM and unwanted mail

from CMS/UConn VM?

SPAM may be increased in your Exchange account due primarily to forwards from VM accounts. You can shut off mail on your VM account, and still have the account remain active for other work (FRS, etc). This will result in the person no longer receiving mail to their VM account and thereby reducing SPAM delivery.

Step 1. Determine what mailing lists you are on.

I. Go to http://listserv.uconn.edu and click on List Management.

II. Click on get a new LISTSERV password.

III. Register your listserv password

IV. You will receive the following message back.

V. You will immediately receive an e-mail requesting you confirm your subscription.

VI. Cut and paste the confirmation link into a browser.

VII. Go to listserv.uconn.edu and choose subscribers corner.

VIII. Now logon with your username and password. You will see the following screen. Click on Follow this link.

IX. This is the list of listserv's that your CMS account is registered on. Make note of these and re-subscribe using your personal name.

2. Log onto your CMS account. At command prompt type tell mailer set forward off.

3. Click here . Scroll down to Turn off VM mail

When VM mail is turned off, anyone who sends an e-mail message to the CMS (VM) address will get a undelivered message.

Note: If someone just turns the forward off, the unread junk mail will continue to be delivered and fill the storage of the VM server. Therefore, BOTH actions need to be taken.
