When would I implement a shared functional account or a mail enabled Public Folder?
The UITS Exchange team is currently offering two solutions for functional type accounts. Please read below to find which will work best in your situation.
Many departments require the use of accounts that are accessed by more than one user.
- If your department requires a shared account to receive e-mail to a generic address (i.e. helpdesk@uconn.edu) but does not need to send or reply from that account a mail enabled public folder* would work best for you.
- If your department needs the ability to reply from or send out mail as a specific account a shared mailbox would work best for you.
*You can send mail as the public folder however, any sent items will be move to the individual user's Sent Items folder and therefore will not be accessible from the other Public Folder users.
