Setting up a computer for offline use
You can set up your Outlook client so that you can choose your connection
type when starting. By doing this you will be prompted as to whether
you want to work offline or connect to the server. In this case you
would choose work offline.
- Go to Tools, Send/Receive Settings, Define Send/Receive
Groups (for Outlook 2003) and Tools, Send/Receive, Send/Recieve Settings/Define Send/Receive Groups (for Outlook 2007).
- Click the Edit button.
- Click on the Account Properties button.
- Check Manually control connection state and Choose the connection type when starting.
Now you can set up folders for offline access. There are two ways to accomplish this task.
If you only have one folder that you want to make available offline then:- Select the folder in your Outlook folder list by highlighting
it.
- Click on Tools, Send/Receive Settings, and select Make this Folder Available Offline (for Outlook 2003) and Tools, Send/Receive, Send/Receive Settings, Make this Folder Available Offline (for Outlook 2007).
If you have multiple folders you want to make available offline you
can do this all at once by following these steps:
- Go to Tools, Send/Receive Settings, Define Send/Receive Groups (for Outlook 2003) and Tools, Send/Receive, Send/Recieve Settings/Define Send/Receive Groups (for Outlook 2007).
- Click the Edit button.
- Choose the files you want to work with Offline by putting a check mark next to them. Then click OK.
- Now you need to sync with all the folders by clicking on Tools, Send/Receive, and select Send and Receive All.
- You should see the following screen indicating that the tasks have completed successfully.
