IMAP setup for Mail

Macintosh's OS X, Apple Mail can be used to access Exchange using secure IMAP

If you are using Mac OS 10.3.9 click here for important news.

If you have previously used Apple Mail as an e-mail client you must first back up your messages before proceeding. Click here for the backup procedure.

Follow the steps below to configure Apple Mail to use IMAP with UConn's Exchange server.

1. Open Mail from the Dock.



2. Click on Mail and choose Preferences.

3. Click on Add Account.

   

4. Under the Account Information tab enter the following:

• Account Type: Select Imap
• Description: Enter UConn Exchange
• Email Address: Your UConn Personal Name e-mail address
• Full name: Your full name
• Incoming Mail Server: exchange.uconn.edu
• User Name: uconn\NetID (uconn\abc01001)
• Password: Your Exchange/NetID password.
• Outgoing Mail Server: Click and choose Add Server.

  

• Outgoing Mail Server - smtp.uconn.edu.

• Server Port: 25

5. Click on the Advanced tab and make sure that "Use SSL tab" is checked.

   

6. Click OK to the Accounts window.

Apple Mail is now setup to use IMAP with UConn's Exchange server.

You will need to empty your Trash folder periodically.
