Setting up Mail: Mac OS 10.4+

Follow the steps below to use Apple Mail with UConn's Exchange server.

Go to the Mail menu and select the Preferences command.

Switch to the Accounts section at the top of the window. Click the "+" icon in the lower-left corner of the window to create a new e-mail account.

From the new window that appears enter the following information, then Continue.

Account Type: Exchange
Account Description: first.last@uconn.edu
Full Name: First Name
Email Address: first.last@uconn.edu

From the Incoming Mail Server section, set the following options, then Continue.

Incoming Mail Server: exchange.uconn.edu
User Name: YourNetID
Outlook Web Access Server: exchange.uconn.edu

From the Outgoing Mail Server section, set the following option, then Continue.

Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.uconn.edu

Click through the remaining Mail configuration dialogs. If you see a message indicating an error, choose to Continue, then select Done at the next window.

Switch to the Advanced tab and ensure that the option for SSL is enabled (right-side, above Authentication option).

Switch to the Composing section listed at the top of the window. Activate the option to Automatically complete addresses, click the Configure LDAP button, click the "+" button in the lower-left corner, and enter the following information:

Name UConn LDAP
Server ldap.uconn.edu
Search Base dc=uconn,dc=edu
Port 389
Scope Subtree

Close the Preferences window and check to ensure that your Exchange account folders show up in drawer to the left or right of the Mail's main message viewer.
